Children Under 12 Years Old
G.L. c. 90 s. 7AA
Small children must be properly restrained in order to decrease the likelihood that they will suffer serious injury in the event of a vehicle collision.
- Infants & small children who are under 5 years old and weigh less than 40 lbs.,
must ride in a federally approved child passenger restraint.
- Children who are under 5 years old but weigh more than 40 lbs., must ride in
a booster seat.
- Children who are 5 years old or older, and who weigh more than 40 lbs., must
ride with a seat belt on. However, a booster seat is highly recommended. Children
should never place the shoulder belt under their arm or behind their back.
Remember, the best place for all children to be seated/sit is in the back seat!!
For technical advice on the installation of your child car seat, please call Trooper Susan Anderson of the Holden State Police Barracks at 508-829-8321.
